"The rooms were very small, which made them hard to move around in."

"There was a power failure, there was no heating in the rooms, no hot water. It was very cold. During the night, as they tried to fix the problems, there was lots a banging going on. We did not get much sleep. The compensation that was given was a complimentary cold buffet breakfast."

"The Strathcona is an older hotel, but well kept and clean. Its in the heart of Downtown Toronto, three blocks from everything (business & entertainment) for easy walking, the PATH System (underground walkway & mall) has an entrance across the street and Union Station is kitty corner connecting you to the entire city and beyond."

"The location of the Strathcona for the price is unbeatable. But I might upgrade to a queen-sized bed next time. The rooms are small but suitable for our purpose of having somewhere safe and comfortable to sleep in downtown Toronto. The staff were all friendly and acknowledged our presence with a hello, even the cleaning staff in the hallways. Everything was very clean, including the elevators. The breakfast in the York St. Cafe was tasty and very quick, but an ample serving.
The only drawback is the cramped washroom -- I guess it's better than having to share a washroom European style, but the design and placement of the fixtures could have been better for the space available: my knees banged the toilet tissue holder. The washroom was perfectly clean, though."

"I was really satified with the location of the Strathcona, but I was not too happy about the size of the room for the price that we paid. It did serve its purpose, and I appreciated the friendliness of the staff."

"These are comments more for the "hotel management" than for other "users".
1. I found that there was no remote control for the television set. When I telephoned somebody (possibly the front desk) at about 4:55 PM and was told that a remote control replacement would be sent to the room, none was delivered. Fortunately, I had no desire to watch television during my stay in Toronto.
2. In regard to the drapperies in the living room, the "wrap-around" piece of cloth for one of the drapes was torn-out of place and was resting on top of the air conditioner. (I don't know what else to call it than wrap-around because that is what it does.)
3. There was a very small piece of gum (dentyne) wrapping on the floor in the bedroom."

"Room comfortable but rather small and could have done with a chair to sit on rather than the 'pouffe' that was there. Could do with better air-conditioning as if the weather had been any hotter it would have been uncomfortable, as the system is too noisy to have it switched on all the time. Also, the room faced into a 'well' at the rear of the hotel and lacked a lot of natural light.Nevertheless we had a very enjoyable stay and the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Mark in the York Street Cafe and Gwen our room attendant."

"the only good thing about this hotel was the location. the room was still small even after upgrading to a bigger room! one day, there was no shampoo replaced (but the housekeeper managed to remove a bottle that still had shampoo!), water wasn't replaced, the curtains look like they needed washing, the bahtroom door knob needed adjustment as did some other fixtures around the room."

"The Strathcona Hotel, with the Via Rail Station kitty-corner to it, is an excellent choice for weary travellors, especially for those whom are waiting to make a connection early the next day. The hassles associated with finding a taxi or the pressures of being on time for your departure are eliminated. I definitely urge everyone to try it. The rates are quite reasonable."

"Small room and not too much place to hang clothes. Furnitures more than rare. I had 2 single beds in my room and the lack of space in the room for one person may be acceptable but not more than that."
