"I have stayed at this hotel many times in the past when I lived in Rochester, NY but I have not been to Toronto for 12 years. I like that the suites allow for separation between sleeping areas. That is why I chose it for attending a convention in Toronto with my wife and a friend.
I ordered the room months in advance online. I specified a room configuration with a bed in bedroom and another in the living room. When we arrived, we were given a room with 2 beds in the bedroom and no bed in the living room. Unexceptable. This was explained as a "comlimentary upgrade". It took a very long time for the management to find us another room. This one had a foldout couch but not a bed. It was very uncomfortable for our friend. This was changed the next day but it was a hassle that stole away from our time and enjoyment of our day. We cut our stay from 4 nights to 3 nights as a result.
We should have been informed about the changes in our accomodations when we arrived at the hotel at 1:00pm. We were only told that we could not check into the room until after 3:00pm ; nothing was said about the room. If they had mentioned the change, I would have showed them my reservation confirmation with the room configuration and the staff might have had time to correct the situation before we checked in.
On another matter, your desk staff should be aware that some USA guests who use debit cards to pay their bill will incur an exchange fee from their bank. My bank, Wells Fargo, charged a 3% Foreign Currency Conversion Fee. Had I been aware of this, I would have paid by other means. I understand that it is my responsibility to know what fees my bank charges. This is simply something that your staff could be aware of to help your guests.
I like this hotel. I didn't expect luxury, just a nice quiet and clean room with reasonable amentities. On these points I am satisfied, which is why I would recommend it to others. I do understand that your staff was overwhelmed on the day we arrived. On the other hand, the room was not inexpensive and a great deal of my time and energy went into correcting the room configuration which I had detailed exactly in advance. I will have to caution others to make sure they are getting what they pay for BEFORE they check in so that they can enjoy their stay.

"Pre-booked a suite consisting of a queen in the bedroom with a double and fold down sofa in the livingroom. On arrival hotel said this did not exist and we could not have five persopns in one room as against Canadian law. Charged an extra 55 dollars per night for an upgrade. Having travelled for 16 hours with my wife and three children and arriving in a major city with little knowledge of the area forced to accept this. All other hotels on our stay (3 Holiday Inns, 1 Delta, 1 Marriot)happy to have five persons in room."

"Common areas are well maintained, but our suite had dirty stained carpets and couch, a blown fuse in the kitchen that they never did fix (we made toast in the living room ) .... the place needs some tlc throughout, not just in the lobby."
